Georgia Willoughby (Moore)

What did you do last night?

Went to the gym with my friend Linda.

What do you usually eat for breakfast?

Two egg tacos with no cheese from Baker’s.

How many hours a night do you sleep?

Depends—usually 6-8 but if I’m called out to work it’s less and if I’m off it’s more.

What is your favorite hour of the day/night and why is it your favorite?

The best time for me is between 10 and midnight.  Kids are in bed and the house is quiet.  It’s the best time for me to do homework.

Where do you live now?

Yucaipa, California.  I know, where the hell is Yucaipa?!?  It’s in San Bernardino County about the midpoint between LA and Palm Springs.

Why did you move there?

We outgrew our home in Rialto and bought a brand new one here.  We like the neighborhood, the schools and the people.  It’s close enough to work but far enough from the ghetto.

Do you like living there? Explain.

Yes.  We had been looking to move to this area for about 7 or 8 years, but wanted to wait until the timing was right.  The real estate market sky rocketed here so we sold the old one for a huge profit and got into a great deal on the new one.

What did you do in the years right after high school?

I moved to San Bernardino with my family.  I took one semester to travel the United States with my mom, my aunt and my cousin.  I enrolled in the local community college to try to get my general education classes out of the way and decide what I was going to major in.  I enrolled in a volleyball class because of my love of the game and was recruited to be on the team for the college.  I played volleyball for the college for two years and had great experiences traveling to the other colleges in Riverside, LA, Orange County, San Diego and Puerto Vallarta.  I ended up spending a year on the basketball and softball teams and ran track.  I had a great time for the 2 ½ years I was there, but I still had not decided what I was going to be when I grew up.  It was during this time that I met my husband.

Tell us about your family? Kids? Spouses? Lovers? Partners? Divorces?

I met my husband Jason in July of 1989 when I was going to college and working at a photo processing plant.  We dated for 4 months and got engaged.  We were married in June 1990 and moved to Barstow, CA  (yes, Barstow—he was in the army and we had no choice!).  Within a year we had our first child Nicholas.  Once Jason finished his stint in the army we moved to San Bernardino to be closer to my parents.  Jason eventually became a paramedic and worked for the local ambulance company.  We continued to add to our family with Kami (1993), Taylor (1996), Karsyn (1997) and Hayden (1999).  And yes, we’re done.  I can’t image starting over at my age!

My husband Jason is now a firefighter/paramedic for San Bernardino City Fire Department.  Remember the wildfires of 2003 that burned 400 homes?  It happened in this city…..

Do you have a job outside of your home?

Yes.  I am a social worker for San Bernardino County Department of Children’s Services.   I do home assessments and background checks on potential relative caregivers.   I have worked for the county for almost 10 years.  I started out as an eligibility worker then worked as a supervisor.  This was about the time I started back to school.  I then transferred to my current department as an Intake Specialist working on the child abuse hotline.  I promoted to my current position about 2 years ago and expect to promote to a social service practitioner in June 2007.

Do you like your job?

I love my job.  I know that social work is my calling.  I am fortunate enough to be in a unit that is making strides and helping set the pace for other counties throughout the state.  I piloted a program in which children being removed from parents or guardians are able to be placed with family immediately—day or night.  It’s very rewarding to help these families that are in crisis.

Is it the job you thought you would have when you were back in High School and you contemplated the future?

I actually wasn’t sure what I would end up doing.  My ultimate dream was law school but my realistic dream was to go to college and find my calling.  Law school is still in the back of my mind—maybe after I finish the master’s program that I’m in.

If you could have any job in the world what would it be?

I would be a lawyer that advocates for dependant children.

What was your happiest day last year?

There were many happy days last year so it’s really hard to pick just one.  My family and I are very blessed.

What is your biggest regret from the last 20 years?

My biggest regret is waiting so long to go back to school and finish my degree.

Do you miss high school? What things do you miss about it?

I don’t miss high school.  High school wasn’t horrible, but I have no desire to repeat it.  I figure college gave me another shot at anything I might have missed…..

What is one of your favorite memories from high school?

Current events in Mr. Slagle’s class.

What is one of your worst memories from high school?

Ditching school with Monet and getting into a car accident with a stupid drunk driver.  Still have scars from that.

Who were your best friends in high school?

Monet Wright and Susan Baker.

Have you kept in touch with them?

I have kept in touch with Monet, but not Susan.  I do wonder what happened to Susan….

How is your life different than the life you thought you would have after high school?

I don’t really think it’s that different.  I really had no expectations and just thought I would end up where I was suppose to eventually…..

Who was your favorite teacher?

I think Mr. Slagle.  He is the one that made learning fun and interesting.  He would be happy to know how much I have increased my knowledge of American history and presidents….

What was the biggest life lesson you learned in high school?

High school was when I learned who my real friends were and how important it is to have and be a friend.

Who was your favorite pop music band in high school?

WHAM!, Duran Duran, Styx, Huey Lewis and the News, Howard Jones

Why do you want to attend a high school reunion?

High school was a time when we were trying to figure out who we are…… I’m interested to see where people’s journeys have taken them.

Why do you NOT want to attend a high school reunion?

I really don’t have a reason NOT to attend.

Are you nervous about attending your high school reunion? Explain.

A little.  None of us are spring chickens anymore so there is a bit of apprehension about what people will think when they see me…..

Do you like answering these questions?

I don’t mind….

Do you have any tattoos? What are they?

A few…shoulder, lower back and right ankle.

What is your favorite food?

Mexican—I’m only an hour and a half from the border.  I am, however, becoming very fond of east Indian food.

Are your parents still alive? How are they doing?

My parent are alive and well and enjoying the 22 grandchildren they have.  I did however lose my oldest brother in March of this year.

Are you happy with the way you look these days? Please explain.

Yes. Lord knows I could help the plastic surgeon pay for his yacht, but I like who I am and how I look.

If you won the lottery what would you do with the money?

Take care of everyone I love and then go to law school.

Are you religious? Spiritual? Agnostic? Is there a God?

I was raised Mormon and identify most with them, but am not actively involved in church.

What do you watch on TV?

Medium, Law and Order and yes, I’m gonna admit it—American Idol.  My husband took our oldest daughter to watch a dress rehearsal last season….we love it.

What are your all-time favorite movies?

Sixteen Candles, Ever After and Crash

In what ways have you changed the most from high school?

I am much more confident and no longer give a crap what people think of me.

In what ways are you the same from high school?

I love to play volleyball, shop and hang out with friends.

Tell us about three of your happiest experiences since leaving high school.

Meeting my husband.

Having my children.

Graduating from college

What do you like most about yourself?

My hair….just kidding!  I like my ability to get along with others.  I see most everyone as a potential friend.

What would you most like to change?

My chronic lateness…..I think my friends would like to change this about me too!

Do you talk on your cellphone while driving?

Yes, all the time and texting too!  I usually use my Bluetooth, but when I have something to say to someone, I can wait!

Tell us something that very few people know about you.

I am a very good seamstress.  I’ve made many prom and bridesmaid dresses and even one wedding dress.  I don’t tell many people cause I don’t sew for just anyone…..

What would you like to happen at the reunion? What would leave you satisfied? What do you NOT want to happen at the reunion?

I would love for everyone to party down and have a good time.  I will leave satisfied if there are lots of laughs over the three days.  I don’t want people to have attitude and hang on to old grudges.

Did you enjoy answering these questions?

It was ok…..I mean it took me long enough to get around to it!!!

Tell us something interesting about yourself that wasn't covered in the above questions.

I am in my final year of graduate school.  I will graduate in June with a Master’s in Social Work…..You’re all invited to my graduation party!
